First Workshop

First workshop, Orientalisches Institut, University of Leipzig, Germany, From April 11 to April 18, 2025.

From 12 to 18 April 2025, the first workshop of the German–Tunisian project “Multiperspectivity through Multiculturality” took place in Leipzig. The event was held at the Institute of Oriental Studies and the main campus of Leipzig University and marked the starting point for a second, follow-up workshop scheduled to take place in Tunis in October 2025.

A total of 30 participants took part in the workshop, including the project coordinators Dr. Kristina Stock and Fayçal Hamouda,  Tunisian lecturers and a total of 22 students from Tunisia and Germany. The aim of this workshop was to introduce the project, establish shared working methods and develop thematic focuses.

At the core of the project is the production of bilingual multiperspectival educational videos that adress cultural concepts and social issues. The project is based on the observation that terms and concepts—particularly in the context of religion, culture, and society—are understood and evaluated differently across countries and languages.

The participants worked in multinational groups. Through discussions and initial practical exercises, ideas and concepts for video formats were developed, different perspectives were compared, and key requirements for later implementation were defined. This process led to the development of video ideas focusing on the concepts of Sheikh, Jihad, the headscarf, and the Arab Spring.

Technical, academic, and organisational aspects were clarified in order to establish common ground for the continuation of the project. The workshop was complemented by shared cultural activities, such as a visit to the Monument to the Battle of the Nations and a trip to Dresden, that encouraged personal exchange among the participants.
